Writing & Rhetoric Minor Program

Writing is related to reasoning, rhetoric, creativity, and critical thinking. Whether you want to write academically, professionally or creatively, writing studies offers students a powerful educational tool.

Innis College has played a leading role in providing writing instruction at the University of Toronto for over thirty-five years. A multidisciplinary, non-remedial program, the Writing & Rhetoric minor was designed to help students from many disciplines graduate with well-developed communication and critical thinking skills they can apply to their major/specialist, to postgraduate degrees, and to the workplace. Students interested in a particular area(s) of writing can learn and apply classical rhetorical strategies, or study creative or professional writing, while all students of this minor hone their ability to problem-solve and craft creative, persuasive, and effective writing. The program’s small-class instruction approach further enhances students’ experience.
