Our Legacy

Innis draws on and values student involvement and leadership. In fact, Innis is the only undergraduate college at U of T that ensures equal representation of faculty and staff and students on all of its decision-making bodies.

“The parity system at Innis College enhances the opportunity for the staff-student interaction, creates a strong sense of shared purpose and community, allows students to develop leadership skills, and ensures that the college remains attentive and responsive to student ideas and concerns.”

John Browne,
former Principal of Innis College

Innis is proud to have cultivated seven recipients of the prestigious John H. Moss Scholarship. Each year this award recognizes one graduating student across the entire university, who demonstrates exceptional leadership in enhancing academic and extracurricular experience.

This legacy of community, leadership, innovation and achievement is further reflected in the exhibition of Inspirational Innisians — notable members of the Innis community who are now memorialized on plaques throughout the college. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Evelyn Cotter, one truly inspiring Innisian, whose legacy thrives in the Innis Writing Centre over the past 50 years. Read this fine tribute to Evelyn.
