A loose adaptation of Dostoevsky’s ‘Demons’, La Chinoise is a docufiction telling the account of 5 French university students in a Maoist student group. A portrait of 5 perspectives on revolution, it explores the conflicts within their conceptions of their place in the changing political landscape in 1960’s France. La Chinoise is a new wave classic marked by Godard’s idiosyncratic use of primary colours and its striking visuals.
