Based on the graphic novel by Phoebe Gloeckner, The Diary of a Teenage Girl follows comic-loving Minnie Goetze, a 15 year old living in 1970s San Francisco. When Minnie enters a sexual relationship with her stepfather, she begins exploring the world of sex, drugs, and art. At times stylish, others uncomfortable, Marielle Heller’s debut feature offers a candid look at female sexuality mixed with animation inspired by the comic artists of the 1970s.
