Join Rebecca and Lazarus, instructors from Innis’s Writing Centre, for a four-part series of free, online workshops to support your transition from high-school to university writing. Attend as many as you like! Registration is not required.

Monday, August 17
Understanding the Assignment
9–10am EDT
University assignments include many expectations, some stated and some unstated. This workshop will help you to decode the instructions.
Organizing the Assignment
10:15–11:15am EDT
Whether you are building an argument, completing a lab report, or writing a critical reflection, you will need to organize your thoughts clearly. The high school five-paragraph structure will no longer suffice! This workshop will help you to express your ideas in a meaningful sequence.
Tuesday, August 18
Using and Citing Sources
9–10am EDT
Most of your assignments will require research. At university, you will learn how to add your own insights to what scholars and other experts have already established. This workshop will help you to include other sources clearly and accurately in your writing.
Revising the Assignment
10:15–11:15am EDT
A first draft will never express your good ideas as well as you hope. Your hard work deserves better! This workshop will teach you strategies for turning a rough piece of writing into a stronger assignment.
