Innis students recognized across campus

There are so many incredible individuals that contribute to our Innis College community. Whether it’s through academics, leadership, volunteering, or simply showing up for others, Innis students never fail to amaze us. This year, several Innis students received awards from the broader University community.

Special congratulations to the following students for their accomplishments in Economics:

Kevin Wang, 2025 recipient of the Alexander Mackenzie Scholarship in Economics. Kevin was also the runner up for the Hosios Scholarship in Economics for his paper Fairness of Medical Triage Systems.

Jay Chuang (BCom ’25 Innis), 2025 recipient of The Jack L. Carr Scholarship. Jay has plans to work in the field of business analytics.

Ruth Zhang, 2025 recipient of the Nanda Choudhry Prize in Economics.

Victor Popa Burca (HBSc ’25 Innis), 2025 recipient of The Paul L. Nathanson Scholarship in Economics and The Safarian Scholarship in Economics. Victor will be returning to U of T in the Fall to complete his Master’s in Economics.

Jiaqi Sun (HBSc ’24 Innis), 2025 recipient of The Reza Satchu Award for Excellence in Economics.

Congratulations to two Innis College students who were awarded The Judi Schwartz Memorial Scholarship by Hart House for their commitment to leadership:

Charlie Olsen (HBSc ’25 Innis), who has graduated with a degree in environmental biology, forest biomaterials science, and energy systems, is a longtime volunteer at U of T’s Hart House and served as steward and co-chair of the Hart House Theatre student committee this past year. Charlie has accepted an internship with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and says they are grateful for what they learned in class and via volunteer roles. (They also served as vice-president, internal, of the Innis Residence Council.)

Emily Shi (HBA ’25 Innis) has been involved in the Hart House Debating Club from novice rep to external then internal tournament coordinator to president. Her four years on the executive team have transformed the club. She has also connected students across the world to Hart House by hosting dozens of hundred-person events.

We’re incredibly proud of these recipients and we look forward to seeing what they do next.

I'm incredibly honoured. The opportunity to collaborate with so many incredible people was the highlight of my time as an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto.
