About the event
Reflections & Refractions is an event series celebrating diverse forms of storytelling and artistic expression that engage with the heritage of Hong Kong.
For this inaugural edition, with film as our chosen medium, we launch the series with a charity screening in support of the vital work of the Richard Charles Lee Canada-Hong Kong Library — preserving archives and heritage, nurturing academic exchange, and promoting cultural dialogue.
We love film because film tells stories — of the past, the present, and the future. It reflects the contemporary voice and refracts our shared experiences through diverse perspectives. The films we have selected speak to who we are and to the stories we wish to share with the world.

About the Film: At the time, they said it couldn’t be done. In 2012, Andre Blumberg set off by himself, to run all four of Hong Kong’s iconic ultra distance trails in just four days. 298km and over 14,500m of climbing later, one of the hardest ultra-marathons in the world – the Hong Kong Four Trails Ultra Challenge (HK4TUC) – was born.
With the 2021 edition of the challenge as a backdrop, ‘Four Trails’ takes you on a journey from when the concept was first conceived to its current format. Under 60 hours to be deemed a ‘Finisher’ and under 72 hours to be a ‘Survivor’, unsupported and with an ever-evolving set of rules. It takes a deep dive into the famous four trails that make up the challenge and you will both laugh and cry as the astonishing stories of those who ddare attempt such a feat unfold.
