North American Premiere! Danxi Bookstore brings you the documentary “Four Springs” directed by Lu Qingyi, which won the Best Documentary Award at the 12th FIRST Youth Film Festival! It’s in Toronto on January 26th!

The film is based on real family life, telling the story of director Lu Qingyi with his parents in a small southern town as the protagonists, recording their daily life for 4 years.

In 2018, the film won the Best Documentary Award at the 12th FIRST Youth Film Festival; In the same year, it was nominated for Best Documentary and Best Editing at the 55th Taiwan Film Golden Horse Awards. On July 1, 2019, it was shortlisted for the preliminary evaluation of the film of the year at the 11th China Film Directors Association 2019 Annual Commendation Conference; In 2020, it won the 28th Shanghai Film Critics Awards’ Top Ten Chinese Films of the Year.

The cost of the film was only 1,500 yuan, and the director Lu Qingyi used a Nikon camera instead of professional film equipment to shoot it, and the shooting time was as long as 4 years. Before preparing for the film, the two articles “My Dad” and “My Mom” written by director Lu Qingyi have caused discussion among netizens on the Internet, so he decided to make a movie for his parents. Because his sister died of lung cancer and his father is getting older, Lu Qingyi wants to seize the time and let his parents see the finished product as soon as possible. So the editing work was initiated.
