Description: In a Polish shtetl, two young men betroth their unborn children, ignoring the advice of a mysterious traveller. Soon after, one of the men dies, and the wife of the other dies in childbirth. The children grow up in different towns, without ever knowing of the betrothal, but the power of destiny leads them to meet one another… Based on the 1914 play by S. Ansky, THE DYBBUK – considered a cornerstone of Yiddish cinema and German Expressionism – relates the story of a young bride possessed by a dybbuk (malicious spirit) and depicts the traditional folk culture of Polish Jews before WW2.
