Writing Literary Journalism: Telling the Stories of the City

Course description

In this introduction to literary journalism, you’ll study the craft of storytelling along with interviewing, reporting, and the journalist’s ethical stance. Guest speakers, field trips, writing activities, and course readings will help you engage deeply with your environment and develop the skills and sensitivity required for literary reporting.

Maggie Reid

Maggie Reid is a journalist, researcher and educator. She has a PhD in Communications from Toronto Metropolitan University. Her work has been published widely in academic journals, edited volumes and popular publications.

She is the co-founder and creative director of Pink Moon Studio where she writes, produces and creates the look, feel and sound of their content.

She worked for the CBC as a radio documentary producer and is the co-creator of the award-winning true crime investigative podcast Catch Him if You Can. Maggie is currently working as an Executive Producer on a documentary (partially funded by the SSHRC Connection Grant) called Blackface Nation that unravels the myth of Canada’s post-race brand by looking at the hidden history of Blackface performance in this country.
