Katips, The Movie is a Filipino musical period drama film written and directed by Vincent M. Tanada in 2021. Based on Tanada’s 2016 stage musical of the same name, it follows a group of student activists from the Katipunan neighbourhood of Quezon City in the 1970s as they struggle to oppose the imposition of nationwide martial law. In addition to Dexter Doria, Lou Veloso, Johnrey Rivas, Adelle Ibarrientos, and Joshua Bulot, Jerome Ponce, Vince Tanada, Mon Confiado, Sazchna Laparan, and Nicole Laurel Asensio star in the film.
Katips was screened at Gateway Mall in Quezon City for the press on November 27, 2021, and for the general public on December 3, 2021. It was intended to be a part of the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival, but it was omitted from the final entry list. On August 3, 2022, it was re-released to compete with the release of Maid in Malacanang. Audience members and critics praised the film “Katips” favourably. In addition, the film was nominated for 17 FAMAS Awards, the most of any 2021 film, and won seven, including Best Picture, Best Director (Tanada), Best Actor (Tanada), and Best Supporting Actor (Rivas).
